One of the biggest questions I get before any photoshoot is almost always what should I wear? This applies to all genders and preferences, but where I want to focus on today is women's headshots what to wear. This is almost always easier said than done, but I'm Rachel with Rachel Z Photography, your San Francisco photography source, and we're going to take a closer look today.
So, as mentioned earlier, this piece is in no way a determination of any gender bias, but simply a way to look over a specific gender style when it comes to headshot photography. This is one piece of an
eventual series to further look at tips for
everyone when it comes to headshot photos. So, with that in mind, let's continue on with our journey today.
Standard professional headshots crop just around or below the bustline, so that will be our focus here. Everyone is different, so a style that might be true for one woman may not necessarily work for another. A halter top might be your style of choice, but for someone else, they might prefer a turtle neck. It all comes down to first comfort in any photo session we have together.
Age, weight, and coloring are all big factors into what outfits may work better than others. That being said, it is always encouraged for you to be yourself truly, more than anything else. If that is even slightly off, then I am always happy to discuss with you further what may or may not work for you.
To put things full circle, I have a list below of questions to ask ahead of any headshot shoot, to find that perfect outfit.
·What colors do I look good in? The truth remains that eye-catching bright and jewel toned colors usually are the best.
·How do I feel about my neck? Straightforward one to think about.
· How do I feel about my arms? If you are critical of your arms, which is perfectly ok, we are almost always our own worst critics, then avoid a sleeveless outfit for your headshot.
· Jewelry? Yes, bring some options and we can find the perfect match.
· Scarves? They can work, another option to bring if you prefer.
· What outfits make you feel empowered? Have an outfit that is your gold standard, then bring it along and we will make it shine.
